TOOELE — A woman who was allegedly attacked by her husband outside the Tooele County Courthouse has died from injuries suffered in the altercation.

Sharon Miller, 41, was pronounced dead at 11 a.m. Saturday, according to LDS Hospital spokesman Jess Gomez. She suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest and never regained consciousness after the Tuesday morning attack with a screwdriver.

Sharon Miller's husband, Charles Miller, 50, was charged Friday with attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony. Those charges are expected to be amended to charges of murder on Monday, according to Todd Hewitt of the Tooele City Sheriff's Office.

Hewitt said Sharon Miller and her husband were planning to divorce. Sharon Miller had filed for a protective order against her husband at the Tooele County Courthouse just before Tuesday's attack. The order had been signed but not yet served.

Earlier that same day, Charles Miller also filed for a protective order against his wife.

Hewitt says according to witness reports, Charles Miller waited in his car in a parking lot across the street for his wife to exit the courthouse.

Charles Miller is accused of then using his pickup truck to broadside the woman's Ford Expedition outside the courthouse, knocking the vehicle on its side.

Police said he then jumped into her vehicle through the window and allegedly stabbed her with a screwdriver as sheriff's deputies tried to pull him out of the vehicle.

Neither of the requests for protective orders cited any physical abuse, and Hewitt said there were no reports of past physical abuse between the couple.

However, Sharon Miller wrote in her application for a protection order that although her estranged husband had never hit her, she was afraid for her life due to his explosive temper. He called her and said he had killed her horse, according to her request.

A week before the stabbing, Sharon Miller said her husband "got into her face" and threatened to hurt her if she did not "cooperate" in their planned divorce.

But Charles Miller said his wife threatened him during a frantic phone call a week before the stabbing.

Charles Miller remains in the Tooele County jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in Tooele's 3rd District Court Monday morning.
