Fidel Gallegos, age 86, our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, greatgrandpa, brother, and friend, passed away June 16, 2001 at his home in Midvale, Utah. Born October 9, 1914 in Servilleta, New Mexico. Married Carmelita Ortega on June 14, 1940 in Farmington, Utah and they just recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary. Fidel and Carmelita resided in Bingham Canyon during the early years of their marriage then they moved to Midvale where they resided until his death. Fidel was a proud and respected employee at Kennecott Copper Mine for 42 years. He served as Secretary-Treasurer of Local 485 Mine-Mill Union. Fidel was one of the founders of the Mine Union at Kennecott Copper Mine and was president for seven years. During that time he was a delegate for the Mine-Mill's National Kennecott Council representing the State of Utah. Fidel's proudest legacy was his family. Following retirement, Fidel immensely enjoyed his family and routinely attended various scholastic and sporting events involving his grandchildren. Fidel was a member of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carmelita; seven children, Richard F. Gallegos, Margaret Bowen (Jerry), Robert E. Gallegos (Laurie), Victoria Flores, Cathy Reilly (Dan), Jesse Gallegos, Dolores Dahlberg (Joe); 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; Fidel was the eldest of nine siblings, Simon, Lutz, Ernesto, David and Lola. Preceded in death by parents, Jesus and Elvira Gallegos; two infant children; and brothers, Albert , Delio and Oliver.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wed. June 20, 2001, 10 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church 7832 So. Allen St., Midvale. Holy Rosary will be recited at the church on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Burial will be at Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery.
