Born Aug. 12th 1926 to Aurelius Miner and Pearl Hazel Wilson McLaren in Salt Lake City, Utah. Died June 19, 2001 of melanoma cancer. Attended Salt Lake City schools graduating from South High in 1943, where he played basketball and football. Served in the US Navy (1944-46) with one year on Saipan. Graduated from the "U" of Utah in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Business. He joined the LDS Church in 1947 and served in many capacities throughout his life. He had a strong testimony of his Lord and Savior. Married Faye Stuart Dec. 16 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of Kent, Kathy and Stuart. Keith became one of the first Architectural Hardware Consultants (AHC) in Utah and worked in this field with many architects and construction companies, in building many malls, hospitals, office buildings, churches, schools and temples until his retirement.
He served on the All-Church Athletic Committee for 30 years. He was a statistician for the "U" of Utah basketball and football games for 47 years. He was a charter member of the Crimson Club and received the Super Sports Fan Award. Starting with the Utah Stars and continuing through the present season for the Utah Jazz, he was the scoreboard operator. Keith loved sports, basketball, football, volleyball, skiing, water-skiing, hunting, hiking and fishing in the Uintas, and especially tennis and golf, a good game of Hearts and Bridge. He loved to travel and visited several countries. He and Faye "McLaren & McLaren" performed many plays and programs for groups large and small. He was the president of Ute Little League Football and was a coach for several little league baseball teams. His main love was his family, whom he truly cherished and supported in every way.
He is survived by his loving wife Faye; Kent (Christina), Laguna Niguel, CA; Kathy (Brent) Bell, Farmington, UT; Stuart (Kathryn) McLaren, Holladay, UT; grandchildren, Matthew (Julie), Nathan, Blake Nelson, Callie, Courtney, James and Anne McLaren; a brother, Don W. (Pat) McLaren, Georgetown, TX; cousins Flora (Wesley) May, Joyce (Melvin) Evans and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his adoring family and many friends. He was an extremely likeable man. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Huntsman Cancer Center or IHC Hospice Foundation.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2001, 12 noon, at the Monument Park 11th Ward, 1565 Foothill Dr. Friends may call Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 So. and one hour prior to the service. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
