1984: The Salt Lake Golden Eagles are admitted after promising to compensate travel costs for visiting teams. The move transforms the Midwestern bus league into a national circuit with air travel.

1994: The Golden Eagles are sold and moved to Auburn Hills, Mich. The franchise is renamed the Detroit Vipers.

1995: The defending IHL champion Denver Grizzlies relocate to Salt Lake City. The newly dubbed Utah Grizzlies go on to win another Turner Cup. A large crowd at the Delta Center watches the series-clinching win over Orlando.
