Sprint Broadband Direct high-speed Internet service has expanded along the Wasatch Front.
It's an "always-on" fixed wireless service that beams the Internet directly into homes and businesses without requiring an additional phone line. The service is available to both residential and business customers who have line of sight to Sprint's transmission tower on top of Farnsworth Peak and are within 35 miles.
New areas include West Valley City, Taylorsville, Magna, Kearns, West Jordan, South Jordan and Riverton in west Salt Lake valley. In Davis County, the expansion includes Clinton, Syracuse and the western parts of Kaysville, Farmington and Centerville. Some of the areas have not had high-speed access to the Internet.
Fixed wireless technology uses a pizza-box-shaped transceiver on the customer's roof that is pointed toward a radio transmission tower to send and receive signals.
Cost is $49.95 a month, or $39.95 if bundled with a home long-distance plan. A one-time equipment charge ranges from $99 to $299 depending on the length of the contract.
