SUNRIVER, Ore. (AP) — The wife of Nike Chairman Phil Knight has been fined $20,000 for having a contractor cut down eight trees at their resort home in central Oregon.

Penelope Knight failed to obtain permission from the Sunriver Owners Association, officials said.

"A tree on private property or common ground cannot be cut without prior approval," said Bill Peck, director of community development in Sunriver.

Knight, the founder of the Beaverton-based athletic shoe and clothing company, owns a six-bedroom, four-bath home on the edge of a fairway at the resort. But pine trees were blocking views from the home, which county records value at $800,000.
