"Just Imagine" isn't your typical unorthodox look at comic books; it's Stan Lee's re-creations of some DC Comic's greatest legends.
In the next three months, Lee — most famous as the founder of rival Marvel Comics (Spider-Man, Hulk, etc.) — will redo Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman in special one-shot comic books.
Who would have ever thought that Lee could and would tinker with DC's best?
Batman, which came out July 5, is the first to be redone in Lee's vision. For Lee, Batman is not a millionaire but a black man who is unjustly imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. When he's released, revenge against the criminal world is the Bat's only goal.
Lee's re-creation of Wonder Woman, which comes out Aug. 16, abandons the Paradise Island roots. It features a young woman who finds a magical golden staff in Peru and is transformed into a superwoman.
Superman as redone by Lee comes out on Sept. 19. There's no Krypton here. A brave yet puny alien policeman chases a criminal into space and becomes stranded on Earth. The atmosphere gives him remarkable powers to battle crime here.
Advance cover art of the three comics shows faint resemblances to the Batman and Wonder Woman we already know, but the Man of Steel looks vastly different; only a red cape stays true to the original.
The three comics are priced at $5.95 each.
