I have seen several letters criticizing Mayor Anderson for his role in liberalizing the state liquor laws. They are making a big thing out of nothing. The liquor laws did nothing to limit alcoholism, they only made it inconvenient to buy liquor. Big deal!

I speak as a teetotaler. I would like to see warning labels on bottles, as there are on cigarette packages. A big lawsuit would be in order, too. The liquor laws did nothing. Utah values? Crass hypocrisy.

Mayor Anderson's administration is an improvement over the last one. In his construction of the east-west light rail, he has minimized the impact construction would have had on 400 South businesses, in contrast to the previous administration, whose legacy is empty shops downtown. His Gateway project is bigger and better than the Grand Mall, favoring local businesses rather than an out-of-state corporations, and it will be more accessible than the Grand Mall would have been. And don't forget the new library. That will be something Salt Lake City can be proud of.
