John Irvine Kasteler was born in Murray, Utah on Jan. 25, 1912. He passed away Sept. 11, 2001 in Salt Lake City.

He graduated from Murray High School and from the University of Utah as a geologist and mining engineer. He married Josephine Mix Kasteler in 1937; later divorced.

He was

a superintendent of a mining property at Keetley, Utah for the United States Smelting, Refining and Mining Company. He served as superintendent of the Hidden Treasure Mine in Tooele County, and was president of Alta United Mines Company for many years. He has spent the last 40 years in mining activities in the vicinity of Reno, Nevada.

He is survived by the following children, John Irvine Kasteler, Jr. (Sharon), Elise Kasteler Hutchings (Paul), Richard M. Kasteler, Steven G. Kasteler (Cindy), and David R. Kasteler (Zoe); and one brother, William (Jean). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.

In abidance with his wishes, he was cremated and a private family service will be held.
