Craig Kenner Garrick passed away September 3, 2001 at L.D.S. hospital in Salt Lake City at the age of 41, the result of complications following abdominal surgery.
Craig was born October 4, 1959 the son of Ilyn D. and Janet K. Garrick at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. He was raised and educated in Provo achieving both a Bachelors and Masters Degree at Brigham Young University. He was a star football player at both Provo High School and B.Y.U. He was always active in the L.D.S. church and served in various callings. He especially loved working with the youth of the church. Craig served an honorable two-year mission in the Tallahassee, Florida Mission where he served as assistant to the president. Following his mission he returned to B.Y.U. to pursue his education and football. In 1984 he was the Co-captain of B.Y.U.'s National championship football team. And as head coach Lavell Edwards put it, "he was the heart and soul of the team." He then went on to pursue a career as a professional football player in the N.F.L. with the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets. A previous severe knee injury sustained in High School cut short his days as a professional football player. He then worked in several capacities such as a motivational speaker, seminary teacher and a counselor for troubled teens.
In 1994 he was married to Carol Rosenvall. Craig's greatest joy in life was his four children; Jordon age 13, Jerrica age 11, Jaxon age six and Jayden age four. Other family survivors include a Grandmother, Martha Kenner, his father Ilyn D. Garrick, his wife Carol, siblings Cathy Tooke-Miller, David G. Garrick M.D., Lisa Ann Holladay, Gina Lee Cox, Michelle Kaufusi and Richard M. Garrick as well as his in-laws Lynn and Beth Rosenvall and 26 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Janet K. Garrick (1998) and a nephew Daniel Holladay (2000).
Craig was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. He was a loving husband and wonderful father. He had a terrific sense of humor and ability to inspire and lift the spirits of all he touched. He fought difficult challenges with quiet dignity and was always there to help those in need. His generosity and selflessness have become a large part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Sandy LDS Crescent 30th Ward, 89 East 11000 South, where friends may call Wednesday evening at the church from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Sandy City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Mortuary.
Craig, we love you and miss you, but will never forget you. Live in peace with your other departed loved ones and your Heavenly Father and Mother, Sweet Prince.
