LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — A college student was convicted of enlisting a friend to kill her scientist father with a 2-foot sword.

Jurors recommended a 48-year prison sentence for Clara Jane Schwartz, 20, who will be sentenced by a judge Jan. 21. Schwartz's defense attorneys argued that her father had abused her.

They said they would appeal on the grounds that the jury did not spend enough time going through the evidence.
