Marion Jones Taufer, age 93, passed away on October 2, 2002, due to natural causes. She died in Salt Lake City in the home she and her husband built in 1940.

She was born on September 2, 1909 in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Isabelle Rockhill Jones and William Albert Jones. She moved to Salt Lake in 1925. She graduated from West High and attended the University of Chicago. While attending the University, she established the record system for the Illinois Central Hospital and later became the Record Librarian and Secretary for the Superintendent at the hospital.

She moved back to Salt Lake and became the Record Librarian at the Salt Lake County Hospital. It was there that she met her husband, Dr. Louis J. Taufer. They were married in 1935.

Dr. Taufer was the Chief of Staff at LDS Hospital and Chief Surgeon for the Union Pacific Railroad. He preceded her in death in 1971.

Marion was active in the Medical Auxiliary, Legislative Council, Symphony Guild, Theatre Guild, Board member of the Utah Arthritis Foundation and Provence Director of Alpha Zeta Beta Sorority. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her husband were active members of the University Club and the Salt Lake Country Club.

Marion is survived by her daughter, Tanya Kathleen Taufer, Salt Lake City; Her son, John L. Taufer and daughter-in-law, Maurine Cannon Taufer; and two grandsons, John Cannon (Jake) Taufer, and Ashton Fillmore Taufer, all of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She was blessed with many friends and neighbors. Her family dearly loves her and will miss her deeply.

It was because of the care of her daughter, Tanya, her nephew, Reid Hansen, her caregiver Georgia Maloney, her neighborhood and members of the Monument Park 16th Ward that she was able to remain in the home she loved.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 South, Salt Lake City, where friends may call from 9-10:15 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her name.
