U.S. WOMEN BEAT ITALY: At Cary, N.C., The United States did all its scoring in a 13-minute span of the second half Sunday in a 4-0 victory over Italy that won the U.S. Women's Cup.
Kristine Lilly's leaning header after a corner kick went beyond the grasp of Italian goalie Fabiana Comin in the 64th minute started the scoring . It was Lilly's 89th goal in international play.
Heather O'Reilly scored her first goal for the United States in the 69th minute.
The 17-year-old O'Reilly picked up an assist when she fed a loose ball to Joy Fawcett, who tapped the ball in in the 73rd.
In Sunday's first game, Kelly Golebiowski and Joanne Peters scored to lead Australia past Russia 2-0.
CREW, REVOLUTION TIE: At Foxboro, Mass., The Columbus Crew and New England Revolution tied 0-0 in the opener of their MLS semifinal Sunday, guaranteeing that two more games will be played in the series.
The Revolution played the last 21 minutes a man short after Daouda Kante was ejected for receiving his second yellow card of the game.
Each team earned one point for the tie in the first-to-five-points series. Since a win is worth three points, two more games will be played.
Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Columbus before the series is decided next Saturday in Game 3 at Foxboro.
The last scoring opportunity came with seconds left in the second five-minute overtime, but a free kick by Columbus' Jeff Cunningham from 35 yards dribbled wide of the goal.
