I just wanted to let you know that I am very pleased, to say the least, that Doug Robinson has returned to the sports pages. Ever since he was taken from sports to the Metro section, I have wanted to write you to reconsider that move.

When I was a young man growing up, I loved to check out the sports section, but I could not understand why anybody would want to read a long, boring sports column. Then I happened to read one of Doug Robinson's columns — and I have been enjoying them ever since. His articles are so well written, so persuasive, so well-researched with facts and figures to back them up, so well put together, so applicable , astute, creative, inspiring, entertaining, humorous and so true. His articles made you want to go share them with others. They are great conversation pieces. My sports-fan son and non-sports-fan wife have both laughed with me over his comments and looked forward to his columns. I wish I had all his articles on Title IX to submit to congressmen, etc., as he makes such strong arguments for saving men's college sports like wrestling, soccer and gymnastics. His articles on Larry Miller, King's Peak and Lake Powell have been saved and savored by me.

I am really grateful that Doug is back in the sports section. If he can still manage to do feature stories and a weekly Metro column without killing himself off and neglecting his family, great too. The more we hear from him the better.

P.S. I have enjoyed reading Brad Rock's articles, too, but I did not like his article on Bryon Russell. I felt it was mean. To make a farewell article one of criticizing and emphasizing his errors and ending with something about not letting the door hit him on the way out was not showing the appreciation and endearment that many of us felt toward Bryon Russell. Many of us liked Bryon's big smile and friendly ways and felt, after all these years, he deserved a nicer sendoff than a kick in the pants.
