Leona Staley Blodgett Wade, 88, died of cancer on November 6, 2002 at the home of her daughter, MaryAnn in Riverton, Utah.

She was the daughter of Alice Florence Jackson and Joseph Nathan Staley and was born in Fillmore, Utah March 9, 1914. She married Orvil William Blodgett on October 17, 1932 in Ogden, UT.

The highlight of her life was to raise an honorable family.

She is survived by her children, Alan Blodgett, Portland, OR; Joan Rasmussen (Duane), Dexter, MI; Jim Blodgett (Jolynn), Holden, UT; Ramon Blodgett (Billie), Bountiful, UT; and MaryAnn VanBallgooie (Gordon), Riverton, UT; and her brother Arnell Staley, Layton, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband Orvil, an infant daughter and her sister Madeline. She had 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grand-children, two great-great-grand-children.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many positions throughout her life. She was a nurse at the LDS and Cottonwood Hospitals and a volunteer at Fillmore Hospital. She was a school crossing guard in Salt Lake County. She was a compassionate mother, grandmother and neighbor. She enjoyed gardening and loved to make quilts for family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, at 11 a.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12590 South 2200 West, Riverton, UT. Family and friends may call Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home and one hour before the service. Interment will be at the North Ogden Cemetery.

The family expresses sincere thanks to all who helped Leona through her difficult final illness. Special thanks is extended to the staffs of the IHC Hospice program, Utah State program for the Blind, the Legacy Retirement Residence in South Jordan for their efficient and constant care.
