"The Duchess"

Dolores Cannon Graves, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend passed away December 12, 2002 with her son, Bruce; and friend, Cleo, by her side.

Dolores was born April 14, 1906 in Rexburg, ID to Agnes Dolores (Brown) Cannon and Ashton Idaho Mayor, Harry Lane Cannon. Upon her arrival the Ashton Herald Newspaper proclaimed, "The young Duchess arrived."

Dolores moved to Salt Lake City with her mother and younger brother, Harry, when she was 10 years old. While attending LDS High School she worked for ZCMI and Auerbach's retail stores. After graduating she attended Business College and then married Clyde Morrison Miller, 1927.

Dolores and Clyde had six children together, one daughter Jacqueline, who died shortly after birth; and five sons, Robert Cannon Miller, Clyde Bruce Miller, David Keith Miller, Donald Lane Miller, Michael Thomas Miller. Dolores loved her boys and was a stay at home mom during her boys early years.

Dolores went to work for Western Dental Supply until she and her youngest son Michael moved to San Diego in 1951. There she took a position with E.B. White Dental Supply where she met and fell in love with Thomas Gandy Graves. They married in 1955 and would spend the next 40 years together until Tom died in 1995. She helped raise two young stepdaughters, Caroline and Inga Sue Graves.

When Tom retired from General Dynamics in 1977 they built their dream home in Pine Top, AZ. Dolores and Tom enjoyed traveling the world together and they made many friends in Pine Top thanks to their dedication and support of the Lion's and Lioness Clubs where they both served as presidents.

After Tom's death, Dolores moved back to Salt Lake City, which she always considered her family center, to be closer to two of her sons, many grandchildren, and many cherished friends. Everywhere Dolores went she met and kept lifelong friends. Especially diligent was her dear friend, Barbara Monson.

This last October, at the age of 96, Dolores completed a lifelong dream of receiving her endowments in the LDS Temple with the aid of her son Keith; grandson, David, and his wife, Tamara. On Oct 23, 2002 she was sealed for all time and eternity to her beloved husband, Tom; and three of her children.

Dolores was a beloved resident of the Chateau Brickyard Retirement Residence where everyone knew her as, "The Duchess." She was especially fond of her friends the Parkes; and her two caretakers, Cleo Raymond and Mona Hughes. When asked by a grandson what was her greatest joy in life, her quick reply was, "My children of course!"
