I am a "notch victim" born between the years 1917 and 1926. I receive less Social Security than Americans born other years because of the Social Security amendment of 1977.
In answer to a letter I wrote to Sen. Bob Bennett, I received a letter from him advising me that he is not willing to co-sponsor a bill to compensate notch victims because "there is some concern that this legislation would create a new inequity as it appears that current benefits received by individuals for whom this legislation was written would exceed the average benefit of future Social Security recipients."
Sen. Bennett admits that an inequity exists. I don't know what the future of Social Security is, but for 15 years, I have been receiving less Social Security than many other Americans. I am extremely angry at our biased and unfair government for consciously discriminating against those of us born between 1917 and 1926.
