Phyllis McCafferty Nelson Riley passed away December 29, 2002, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, after suffering a massive stroke. Her three daughters were by her side.

Phyllis was born April 24, 1920, in Ephraim, Utah, to Silas E. and Eva Smith McCafferty. She and Robert (Bob) E. Nelson were married July 10, 1940, in the Manti Temple. She married Frank E. Riley in April of 1968.

In her early life, she enjoyed assisting her husband, Bob, in his sheep business and loved spending time in the mountains at the sheep herd with him and their four daughters. She was a telephone operator and office manager for Mountain States Telephone in Mt. Pleasant for several years. After Bob's death, she moved to Salt Lake City where she attended business school and subsequently worked for the Utah Education Association, the IRS, and also Hill Air Force Base, from which she retired. She and her husband, Frank, retired to Mt. Pleasant where they enjoyed camping, golfing, and traveling to visit family and friends.

Phyllis was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church organizations. She was a member of and enjoyed attending a variety of clubs in Mt. Pleasant. She lovingly made a number of quilts, clothes, and special gifts for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Roberta (Welby) Barentsen of San Jose, CA; Camille (David Bruce) Nelson of San Luis Obispo, CA; and Eddi (David) Bailey of Moroni, UT; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grand-children; one sister, Elaine (Richard) Condie, and two brothers, David (Jerry) McCafferty, West Point, UT; and Michael (Dianne) McCafferty of Salt Lake City, UT. Preceded in death by husbands, Robert E. Nelson and Frank E. Riley, daughter, JoAnn Nelson Lund, and brothers, Silas L. McCafferty, Robert McCafferty, and Don McCafferty.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 2, at 1:00 p.m. in the Mt. Plesant Utah North Stake Center, 461 North 300 west, Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Friends may call Wednesday, Jan. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Magleby-Rasmussen Mortuary, 96 North 100 West, Mt. Pleasant; and Thursday, Jan. 2 from 11 to 12:30 a.m., at the church prior to services.

Our loving mother and grandmother will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
