Arch Nelson, 81, of Holladay, Utah died February 13, 2002 due to complications from pneumonia.
He was born in Coos Bay, Oregon and lived and worked in California for most of his life. He had a long career in the surety bond industry. He later retired in Washington and Utah.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; and by his children Kristin Hill, Carl, Margaret, and Keith Nelson. He is also survived by two brothers, Torlef Nelson of North Bend, Oregon and Bruce Nelson of Bandon, Oregon. He was a proud grandparent of Eric Hill, Salt Lake City and Rebecca Nelson, Modesto, CA and a dear friend to son-in-law Keith Hill and in-laws Dex and Louise Hill of Salt Lake City.
Arch was proud to have served his country in World War II in the Army Air Force. After losing most of his vision many years ago, he became involved with the Blind Veterans and loved spending time with the Blind Reading Group of Salt Lake City. He was also proud of his Scandinavian heritage and enjoyed his membership in the Sons of Norway.
Grandpa was never happier than when he was fishing, listening to books on tape or cowboy music, bowling, or playing the slots in Wendover. He was a good man and a strong, loving father.
There will be a private family memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Guide Dogs of America, 13445 Glenoaks Blvd, Sylmar, CA 91342. (888-505-5662).
