LOGAN — Cache Valley Electric is upgrading a power plant for the city of Logan.

The project involves the removal of three old inefficient diesel-engine-powered generators and replacing them with new natural-gas-fired turbine units. Each of the new turbine generators produces two megawatts — enough to power about 1,000 typical homes.

The company also is updating the lighting and electrical distribution systems within the existing powerhouse. Upgrades are also being made to the adjacent substation to support the new generators and make the necessary connections into the city's power grid.
