Neldon Floyd Johnson, 83, of Orem, died February 14, 2002, in Orem.
He was born Dec. 4, 1918, a son of Victor Carl and Enid Harmon Johnson in Wellington, Utah. He married Anna Gerber on Nov. 10, 1943, in the Cardston Alberta Canada Temple, she died January 19, 1953. He married Hannah Baker on January 11, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Floyd was an active member of the LDS Church and served in numerous bishoprics, he was a bishop twice, a high councilman, MTC branch president, young men's president, and Sunday school teacher. He was inducted into the BYU athletic Hall of Fame. Man of the year for Orem/Provo Rotary Club and received many other recognitions for his service.
Floyd worked for 46 years as the Equipment Manager in the Athletic Department at BYU. "Floyd, Bishop Johnson, or Brother J" are all terms of endearment from former players who looked up to him for his Christ-like characteristics, devotion to BYU and his unconditional love of the athletes. He has shared his testimony and touched the lives of hundreds of athletes who have passed through his equipment room.
Survivors include his wife Hannah of Orem, three daughters and one son, Ann Johnson of Orem, Carol (Allen) Wilde of Orem, Robert Johnson of Rancho Mirage, CA, Corinne Ramirez of American Fork. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several foster children. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Suncrest Stake Center, 90 North 600 West in Orem. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State in Orem and also Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the stake center. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
