Williams has been at the forefront of innovation for decades. They're also a leader in employee benefits, support of our communities and many other actions we take everyday. Williams is a global leader in energy. Through entrepreneurial-style risk taking and an unwavering commitment to their

shareholders, Williams remains a reliable investment opportunity and leader in our industries.

For 90 years, Williams quietly has grown into a multibillion dollar energy and high-technology company with a reputation for strong shareholder value, honest business dealings and an entrepreneurial spirit that aggressively pursues innovation. Williams traces its roots to 1908 with two brothers' construction projects in Fort Smith, Ark.

Within a few years Miller and David Williams were building cross-country natural gas and petroleum pipelines. By the time the brothers relocated to Tulsa

in 1919, they had a reputation for building a job on time and on budget.

For more than 60 years, the company did business as Williams Brothers. We adopted The Williams Companies name in the 1970s, reflecting our diverse businesses and shortened our name to just Williams in 1997.

The company began assembling its nationwide system of interstate natural gas pipelines in 1982 with the purchase of Northwest Energy Company, which had two

interstate natural gas systems. These now operate as Northwest Pipeline and Williams Natural Gas.

One of the most innovative ideas in American business began in 1986 when Williams ran fiber-optic cable through decommissioned pipelines. This was the

groundwork for WilTel, to become the nation's fourth-largest long-distance network. Our recent energy history includes the addition of MAPCO in 1998,

which brought refining, natural gas liquids pipelines and travelcenter assets into Williams.

Throughout our long history, you can see that Williams is an active, dynamic company that delivers innovation with its people and its assets. We see great things for the future and are ready to make this century even

more exciting.
