The highest-elevation Boy Scout camp in the nation has renewed its lease on U.S. Forest Service land for another 20 years.

The Great Salt Lake Council's Camp Steiner has renewed its use permit in the High Uintas. The Forest Service granted a two-decade renewal for use of the camp Tuesday afternoon in a ceremony at the Salt Lake City-County Building.

Located just northeast of Mirror Lake, off U-150, Camp Steiner, at an elevation of 10,400 feet above sea level, has been serving Salt Lake area Scouts for 72 years since 1930.

The camp is named after the Steiner family, who own Steiner Corp. Many of the original cabins and buildings from the 1930s are still in use at the camp and may soon be added to a historical registry.
