Authorities trying to locate approximately $80,000 allegedly taken from a safe-deposit box searched a West Valley woman and her house but found nothing, court documents state.
Authorities were looking for $30,000-$50,000, a Brighton Bank safe-deposit box key and other items belonging to the couple who rented the safe-deposit box.
On Jan. 10 a briefcase was stolen from a South Salt Lake business, police spokesman Darin Sweeten said. Inside the briefcase was a key to the safe-deposit box and the location of the bank it was in. Whoever took the briefcase is believed to have taken the jewelry and money inside the safe-deposit box.
Authorities arrested two people in West Wendover, Nev., last month they believe are connected to the theft, Sweeten said. However they haven't been able to recover the money.
Sweeten said the money could "have passed a couple of hands who could have taken a cut. The other thing is we still have no way to prove exactly how much money was in there in the first place."
