- George was called to his heavenly home March 6, 2002, after many years struggling with diabetes. The last year, he suffered much pain and a growing loss of mobility. He is now pain free and striding along with relatives and friends.
George was born 10 April 1925 in Salt Lake City to George L. And Rita West Phelps. He had five brothers and sisters who, along with his parents, preceded him to their heavenly home.
George married Shirley Brooks of Hoytsville, 29 May 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. He held many positions in the LDS church and made many lifelong friends and choice memories which he and Shirley reminisced up to the time of his death. He increased his friendships while working and retired from Hill Air Force Base after 34 years.
George loved people and enjoyed visiting with them in person or by telephone. Special friends the last 15 years were everyone at the North Summit Seniors Club where he enjoyed playing Canasta, visiting and good lunches.
George especially loved his wife; their three children, Lois McQueen, Larry Phelps and Carol Luchin and their 15 grandchildren. They are the icing on his cake.
Funeral Services will be Monday, March 11, 2002 at 12 noon at the Hoytsville Chapel with a viewing Sunday, March 10 from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary in Coalville and Monday at the church one hour before the funeral.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 340 East 400 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111. Interment, Hoytsville Cemetery.
