Vern Evans Goudy, age 76, passed from this life to the next on Monday, March 11, 2002 after a long and courageous struggle with prostate cancer.
He was born to John and Catherine Lewellyn Goudy on November 9, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah. From his early years, as the son of a Power Plant Operator, he developed a love of mountains and canyons, and all of God's creations thereof. The families last location before Vern enlisted in the U.S. Navy was Santaquin, Utah. It was there he met Clara Kearns who became his wife of 56 years. His life was blessed with eight children, each one dearly loved. Four boys and four girls: David (Sherrie) Goudy; Richard (Tammy) Goudy; Thomas Goudy; and Evan Goudy; Christine Culver, Diane (Lee) Francis; Lynette (Roger) Hayes and Carlene Holm; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grand-children.
He is survived by one brother, John L. Goudy. Preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, Donald Goudy, Duane Goudy, Cheri Olsen, and one precious grandson, Joshua Wallentine.
Vern lived life with "gusto". "Good enough" was not ever enough. He always went the extra mile. Service was his middle name. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he baptized his wife, married her in the temple and raised a large family. He was a scout and registered scouter for 65 years. He dedicated his life to young men. His life work was that of Appliance Sales and Service. His expertise and honesty were legendary. When the Bountiful Temple opened, he accepted a call to be an Ordinance worker. His life work came to a close as he served his community as a Director, Restoration Specialist and Docent for the Centerville Whitaker Museum. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, 2002 at 11 a.m., at the Centerville Canyon Ward Chapel, 160 South 300 East, Centerville. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Friday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the 11 a.m. funeral services. Interment-Centerville City Cemetery.
