Tooele<! > - On March 12, 2002 Grant R. Sanderson died in LDS Hospital of complications associated with myelofibrosis.
Grant was born August 28, 1923 in Fairview, Utah to Golden and Selma (Christensen) Sanderson. He graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1941. A veteran of World War II, Grant fought in northern Italy with the lOth Mountain Division. For the rest of his life he remained in close contact with many of his comrades and was immensely proud of his association with them, their service, and the sacrifice they had all made. After the war he returned to Fairview and on July 10, 1949, married Marelle Brady, his wife of nearly 54 years, who survives him.
Grant graduated from the University of Utah, receiving the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. From 1953 to 1985 he worked as an educator - 30 of those years as a teacher at Tooele Junior High School, where he taught science, mathematics, photography and for many years was faculty advisor to the yearbook staff. Grant was a loyal and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His service includes a full-time family history mission with Marelle in the Canada Montreal Mission. At the time of his death he served as a bishop's counselor in the Tooele 4th Ward.
He is also survived by his sister Sydnee (Albert) Halladay, sons Derl (Laureen), Sam (Anna), and Mark (Lynne), seven grandchildren, and countless warm and devoted friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16, at the Tooele 4th Ward chapel, 192 W. 2nd South. Friends and family are invited to visit at Tate Mortuary, 110 South Main, Tooele, from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 15, or from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will take place in the Fairview City Cemetery at approximately 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Grant's name payable to: Utah Chapter lOth Mtn.
