Bishop Elden Meservy Watson passed away Thursday, March 14, 2002 at his home at 301 West 250 South, Bountiful, Utah surrounded by many of the members of his family, which family includes his eternal companion, Lillian Vida Clarke, married and sealed to him in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, August 21, 1933; his daughter, Eldeen Watson Trimble (married to the late Floyd Edward Trimble) of Bountiful, Utah; and his sons, Robert Elden Watson (married to the former Barbara Ann Davies) of Boise, Idaho; and Roger Clarke Watson (married to the former Lois Marie Baldwin) of Keller, Texas.
Elden leaves this life at the age of 89 after a lifetime of service to his country, church and family. Born in Teton City, Idaho, July 30, 1912, Elden was a star athlete at both Ricks College and Utah State Agricultural College, and in 1983 was inducted into the Ricks College Hall of Fame for his achievements in football, basketball and track. He had an exemplary career with the U.S. Department of the Interior, and served in numerous callings in the Church, including Bishop of both the Bountiful 1st and 58th wards. Elden is patriarch to a posterity of three children, 16 grandchildren, and 53 great-grandchildren who yet survive him and love him.
Memorial service will be held Monday, March 18, 2002 at 12:00 noon, at the Bountiful 58th Ward Chapel, 200 West 200 North. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main and Monday morning from 10:45-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
Bishop Watson revered his ancestry, cherished his membership in the Church, dedicated his life to the services of others, and taught his family to do likewise. He was greatly loved and will be missed and remembered by many.
