Richard Jay Bassett, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 17th in Houston, Texas from complications of liver cancer.
Born in St. Anthony, Idaho to Thomas Myrthen and Henrietta Minson Bassett.
He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Remington, 50 years ago. A civil engineer graduate of the University of Utah, he worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron Company for 37 years in Salt Lake City, Kansas City, and Houston. A lifelong member of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in numerous church callings, including Bishop, Stake President, Regional Representative, Patriarch, Temple President and Sealer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice, his seven children, Jann (Powell), Jill (Franklin), Curtis, Bret, Bruce, Elizabeth (Applegate), and Sidney, along with spouses, 28 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas and Arthur Bassett, and his sister, Ann Scott.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 22, 2002, 11 a.m., at the River Ridge 8th Ward, 10124 So. 1300 West, where friends may call from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in Parker Cemetery, Parker, Idaho, Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 11:30 p.m. Directors - Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary.
