World Tour Soccer 2002 by 989 Sports for PlayStation 2 brings video gamers hundreds of international and club teams and a selection of players that isn't even countable. Besides that, they can really perform, making some amazing plays.
Play against an elite national team if you want, or choose instead to play club teams from 11 leagues. You can even choose elite teams of the past.
Players have to use skill and refinement to hit their goals, because though the ball shoots in the general direction of the goal, it's up to the player to determine the power and precision of the play. The real advance this soccer game brings, though, is the sheer variety of moves that are possible. It's almost like being there. And it doesn't hurt at all that the crowd can get pretty rowdy during a match.
Roger Arave, 15-year-old son of Deseret News staff writer Lynn Arave loves PlayStation 2 games and he loves soccer. So it made a lot of sense to ask him to help review World Tour Soccer 2002.
On a scale of 10, he'd give it an 8, helped along by "truly great graphics" where everything looks real.
It's the best soccer video game out there, he opined. And while it's the only one I've tried, other youth testers seemed to agree with him.
He loves the way the angles change in the stadium during plays. But he was less charmed to find that "sometimes you think you are going to kick the ball, but you don't because of some kind of misalignment in the computer. And the game's buttons are very different than other PlayStation games," so he had a hard time getting used to them.
The video game itself is very true to the actual sport, making it a lot of fun if you love soccer.
World Tour Soccer, which lists for $49.95, is rated E for everyone.
