Lincoln Elementary School is rising from the ashes in Ogden.
School officials pierced snow-dusted ground with gold-tinted shovels Tuesday in a groundbreaking ceremony to rebuild the school, destroyed by fire last August.
The community helped design the new building "reminiscent of the old Lincoln," which will open in fall 2003, district spokeswoman Debbie Hefner said. Lincoln students are attending Edison and kindergartners are going to school at the district's early childhood center in the meantime.
"We wish the circumstances of the building had been different, but nonetheless, the community is very excited about it," Hefner said of the new building.
The blaze at the school, 1235 N. Canfield, was fueled by gasoline poured throughout the building.
Investigators believe the fire was set by an adult arsonist. They are searching for suspects.
