OKLAHOMA CITY — After being swept in a four-game series at New Orleans, the Salt Lake Stingers took a page from the Zephyrs' formula for success in a 5-0 win over the Oklahoma RedHawks Tuesday night.
Part one of the plan was to get off to a good start, and the Stingers executed that with a five-run first inning.
Jeff Guiel started the rally with a one-out RBI single off RedHawks starter Aaron Myette (0-2). One out later, Jose Molina extended his hitting streak to nine games with a two-run double. Julio Ramirez closed out the scoring with a two-run single.
The second part of the plan was a solid effort from starting pitcher Mickey Callaway (3-0), who threw six shutout innings. Greg Jones, Chris Pine and Bart Miadich each followed up with one scoreless inning of relief.
Callaway has not allowed a run this season in 18 innings of work.
BEE LINES : Prior to his two-run first-inning single, Ramirez had been 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Jamie Burke will have X-rays done on his left foot after fouling a pitch off of it in New Orleans. Burke broke that same foot two years ago. Wednesday's game started at 11:05 a.m. (MDT), with Elvin Nina (1-0) going for the Stingers against the RedHawks' Joaquin Benoit (1-1) . . . The game was to be broadcast on ESPN Radio, 1230 AM.
