Newscaster Jim Lehrer says he sees hope for serious journalism as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"I am now finding more and more journalists saying, 'It has taken a tragedy of enormous proportions, but maybe, maybe we are returning to our roots, and those roots are in the business of information, not entertainment," Lehrer said in a commencement speech at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., on Saturday.

"If you want to be entertained, go to the circus, go to the movies, go to the carnival. If you want to be informed, read my newspaper, read my magazine, watch or listen to my television or radio broadcast," he added.
