OGDEN — A man fell to his death while climbing Sunday in Waterfall Canyon east of Ogden.
David Wayne Johnson, 45, of Salt Lake City, was hiking in the area with his girlfriend about 4 p.m. Sunday, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Klint Anderson.
During their hike, Johnson left the established trail to rock climb. He got into an area that was beyond his skill level, lost his grip and fell 40 to 50 feet, Anderson said. Johnson hit the side of the wall several times on his way to the ground.

Investigators believe Johnson was not an experienced climber and was in an area that required ropes and equipment he did not have.
