Our beloved husband, father and Opa, Herbert Kurt Ludwig, 81, passed away suddenly Saturday, June 8, 2002.

Herbert was born June 5, 1921 in Bellmannsdorf, Germany to Kurt and Ida Ludwig. He married Inge Benicke in Berlin, Germany Sept 28, 1951, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

His life was one of service and love for his family, his church and his country. Served in the German Army during World War II, a 3 1/2 year LDS mission in East Germany, stake mission in Milwaukee, bishopric, high council and temple worker. He worked as mason, and at Eimco PEC for 25 years.

He met his sweetheart on his mission and they shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage. He loved spending time with his friends and family. Herb had a sharp wit and a keen sense of humor. The sparkle in his eye was always followed with an act of kindness or an uplifting complement. Above all, Herb was faithful until the end. He exemplified the words of the Master, "He who is greatest among you, let him be the least." He made sacred covenants and lived them. God bless you.

He is survived by his wife, Inge; children, Christel (Kosta) Bikakis, Escondido, CA, Mark (Barbara), Sandy, UT, Susan (Stephen) Haslam, SLC, Annette (Kent) Harris, Bountiful; sister, Elli Klein, SLC; and 13 grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Michael; and grandson, Ryan Bikakis.

Services will be Wed. June 12, 2002, 12 noon, Sugarhouse Ward Chapel, 1100 E. 1700 S. Friends and family may call Tues. June 11, 6-8 p.m., Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and also at the church, Wed. one hour prior to services. Interment to follow at SLC Cemetery.
