A. Dean Larsen, 71, passed away May 29, 2002, at his home in Provo.
He was born Aug 23, 1930, in Vineyard, UT the third son of Vera Alice Austin and Ariel Ellis Larsen. In 1944 his fam-ily moved to Orem, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. He served in the LDS East-Central States Mission and earned a degree in history at BYU. During the Korean War, he served in the Army, stationed in Germany.
On Feb 14, 1958, Dean married Jean Maycock in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1960 he received a master's degree in library science from the University of Michigan. For over 40 years he worked at BYU's Harold B. Lee Library with primary responsibility for collection development. He retired in 1995 as associate university librarian.
Dean is survived by his wife, Jean; their children, David (Kris) Larsen, Danville, CA, Paul (Shelley) Larsen, Draper, UT, Ann (Christopher) Bige-low, Provo, Charlotte (Paul) Burrows, Concord, CA; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Austin (Joan) Larsen, R. Paul (Lorna) Larsen; and sisters, Genniel (Robert) Dixon, Ruth (Harold) Eschler.
Services will be Mon. June 3, 2002, 11 a.m., Pleasant View 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 2900 N. 650 E, Provo. Viewings will be Sun. June 2, 6-8 p.m., Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N, Orem, and Mon. 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at the chapel. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Yellowstone National Park Collection Endowment, 2060 Harold B. Lee Library, Brigham Young University, Provo, UT 84602.
