James Roy Shupe peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father May 31, 2002 at the age of 69.

He was born Dec 24, 1932 to David Mathews and Muriel Robinson Shupe in North Ogden, UT. He grew up in North Ogden graduating from Weber High School. He attended Weber State College and Utah State University where he received a Bachelors degree in Music. Jim served an LDS mission in the Western Central States Mission where he gained a love for the Native American people. In 1955 he married Shirley Porter. Together they had six children. They were later divorced. Jim was a classical musician who loved to fiddle. He played all over the world sharing his talent with all nationalities. He played with the Utah Valley Boys, the Utah Symphony, and many bands. He was the founder of the Utah Old Time Fiddle Association. He dedicated his life to sharing his talents through the students he taught and loved. He dearly loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his children and grandchildren. In 1981 he married Dixie C. Williams in Ogden, UT.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie; two sons and four daughters, James Roy Shupe Jr. (Chris), Tamara Tsuyuki (Rick), Rebecca Shupe (Dale McAllister), Elizabeth Haynes, Rex Shupe (Lynette), Dove Shupe; nine grandchildren, Brandon Fife, Anthony Haynes, Regan, Kennon, Harrison, Dalyn, James III, Amanda and Justin Shupe; four stepchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and brothers, Bob, Ted (Sandy), Steve (Danille) Shupe. His parents preceded him in death.

A gathering for family and friends will be Mon. June 3, 2002, 6-8 p.m., Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 S. State St, Orem. Services will be Tues. June 4, 2002, 1 p.m., Orem Park 2nd Ward Chapel, 1160 W. 400 S, Orem. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the services at the chapel. Interment, Ben Lomond North Ogden Cemetery.
