ATLANTA — Federal agents surrounded the son of former Olympic gold medalist Olga Korbut on Monday and arrested him on counterfeiting charges.

Evidence links the gymnast's son, Richard Bortkevich, to more than $35,000 in phony money found inside an upscale home once owned by Korbut and her ex-husband, said Bill Creel, assistant special agent in charge of the Atlanta field office.

In December, a sheriff's deputy found the fake $100 bills, some still in sheet form, in an upstairs room of Korbut's former home in suburban Atlanta. The deputy was attempting to serve eviction papers to Olga Korbut's ex-husband, Leonid Bortkevich, police records show. Bortkevich, however, had already returned to Belarus.
