NEW YORK — Robin Ventura's one-out roller left Boston without a play, and Alfonso Soriano streaked home in the 11th inning Saturday to give the New York Yankees a 9-8 victory over the Red Sox.

On what was looking like a lost afternoon for the Yankees — closer Mariano Rivera walked off with tightness in his right shoulder and a late lead disappeared — they came back to end Boston's four-game winning streak.

After Rivera walked off as the Red Sox rallied for five runs and an 8-6 lead in the eighth, the Yankees came back to tie it in the bottom half. Nick Johnson hit an RBI double and scored with two outs when Soriano singled sharply on an 0-2 pitch.

Steve Karsay (5-4) pitched three scoreless innings for the win as New York increased its AL East lead to three games over Boston.

Wayne Gomes (1-2) took the loss.

BLUE JAYS 12, DEVIL RAYS 10: Shannon Stewart hit a three-run homer in a seven-run fifth inning as Toronto sent Tampa Bay to its 15th loss in 16 games.

The Devil Rays, with the worst record in the majors at 29-66, have lost a team-record 13 in a row on the road and seven straight overall. They have the major leagues' longest road skid since Philadelphia dropped 14 straight in 1997.

ROYALS 7-3, INDIANS 5-5: Ellis Burks' second homer of the game, a three-run shot in the 10th inning against Brad Voyles (0-2), helped Cleveland snap Kansas City's nine-game winning streak in the second game of a doubleheader.

Brandon Berger and A.J. Hinch drove in two runs each and Runelvys Hernandez (1-0) earned his first career win as Kansas City won the opener 7-5.

Burks hit a two-run homer in the first inning of the nightcap against Shawn Sedlacek and Charles Nagy pitched six strong innings in his first start off the disabled list for Cleveland.

Paul Shuey (3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win and Bob Wickman got three outs for his 20th save in 21 opportunities.

Cleveland's Jaret Wright (0-1), who missed more than a year with a shoulder injury, allowed five runs and seven hits in four innings in his first major league appearance since June 21, 2001, in the opener.

TWINS 14, TIGERS 4: Bobby Kielty, playing center field in place of suspended Torii Hunter, went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs to lead Minnesota past Detroit.

David Ortiz homered twice, rookie Michael Cuddyer had his first career home run and four RBIs, and Kielty scored four times as the Twins won their fourth straight.

ORIOLES 4, WHITE SOX 3 (14): Tony Batista led off the 14th inning with a double and scored on a one-out single by Brook Fordyce off Bob Howry (0-2), giving Baltimore the victory over Chicago.
