OK, so we know men and women are different in many areas; and their radio choices are no exception. Women of all ages like KSFI (alias "FM-100"), by far their No. 1 listening choice.
KSL is the second choice among women, age 12-plus, while KUBL is the next favorite of women, ages 18-34. For ages 25-54, KODJ is the runner-up.
However, for men it's a different story; they prefer three different stations for the three main age groups that Arbitron measures — for ages 12-plus, KSL is the top choice, followed by KBER. Men, ages 18-34, prefer KXRK, followed by KBER. And for men, ages. 25-54, KBER is tied with KRSP as No. 1, followed by KSL.
So, it's no wonder a man and a woman in a car together can't agree on the same station.
The Arbitron numbers also show that men listen to the radio more than women — by a wide margin. Men, ages 25-54 and 35-64 spend the most time listening to the radio each week — 20 hours and 15 minutes, according to Arbitron. Men, ages 18-34 listen an average of 18 hours and 30 minutes a week.
The highest female listening group is the age 18-34 category, at 17 hours and 15 minutes a week.
MORE RATINGS — For the first time in a decade, I have a full Arbitron radio-ratings book to examine. We're talking almost 300 pages of statistical information on Wasatch Front stations. If you want detail on the listening habits of various age groups or genders, this book is the bible.

LOCAL PORTIONS OF RADIO DISNEY — While Radio Disney is a nationally syndicated format, its local affiliate, AM-860, does manage to include some local segments. These are done by DJs from sister stations who are housed in the same building.
For example, "Todd and Erin" of KBEE do a family-fun update on AM-860 each weekday at 7:20 a.m. Jimmy Chunga of KENZ does a movie review on the local Disney station at 8:20 a.m.
Others are: Rick Dunn's sports tips at 9:20 a.m., Shamus' outdoor fun at 10:20 a.m. and Pat Garrett's NASCAR report at 11:20 a.m.
TEN YEARS AGO IN SALT LAKE RADIO — Mike Carver becomes the operations manager at Logan's KBLQ; Chere Wood joins KBZN for a morning show; Hans Petersen begins a morning show on KISN-AM; "Cano and Simmons" on KKAT is the top morning radio show in Salt Lake.
RADIO HAPPENINGS — Frankie C and Danger Boy of the "Z-Morning Zoo" on KZHT were in their usual outrageous form last week. They filled-in for Allie Mackay on Fox-13's morning TV stints and were dressed in platinum wigs in Allie's honor.
Can you do better than Tom Barberi, morning host on KALL? The station chose Lew Emmerich, James Nunnally, Erik Klauser and David Woodruff to take his place for an hour each. They were on the air Aug. 22.
