Electronic House Magazine has named Midvale-based Phonex Broadband's NeverWire 14 a "Product of the Year."

The NeverWire 14 is a HomePlug 1.0-compliant device that uses standard electrical wiring's unused bandwidth to create instant 14MB Ethernet networks and share high-speed Internet access, peripheral devices like printers and play interactive network and Internet games.

The award will be presented at the CEDIA Expo trade show Sept. 28 in Minneapolis.

The networks created by the plug-and-play device don't need software drivers or installation, and will support both Macintosh and Windows PCs. It also introduces instant security encryption though a button on top of each device. And the NeverWire does self-testing to show that the network has successfully installed itself and that device-to-device communication is in place.

It costs $129 a mode and is available now. Each device consists of a modem-sized box with a power plug and an RJ-45 Ethernet jack. Users simply plug a NeverWire 14 into the wall, then plug the RJ-45 jack into the computer or hub to tap into the 14MB Ethernet network.
