California-based clothing company Stussy Inc. said Tuesday it has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City against Downeast Outfitters Inc. and officers Jonathan and Charlie Freedman for trademark infringement.
The suit also names Bing's Merchandising and its owner, Thomas Sham, as defendants.
The suit claims Downeast Outfitters sold counterfeit "Stussy" T-shirts. Stussy said it learned about the alleged problem when the shirts appeared on the Internet auction site eBay.
Stussy said Downeast Outfitters claimed to have purchased the T-shirts from California-based Bing's Merchandising and that Bing's claimed to have purchased them from an unknown source in downtown Los Angeles.
Downeast Outfitters is a regional discount retailer with 14 stores in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.
