Stampin' Up! will soon have a new home.

The Utah-based, $150 million per-year decorative stamp company has purchased a 55-acre plot in Riverton, just off 3600 West across from Rose Creek Elementary School. There, company officials said they plan to build a multi-building "campus" to accommodate administrative headquarters and a distribution facility. The company's manufacturing facility in Kanab will not be affected by the move.

Shelli Gardner, Stampin' Up! co-founder and chief executive officer, said the new buildings will bring essential operations together — currently, the company's headquarters is in Sandy, while its distribution center, 1901 S. 5070 West, is 20 minutes away.

Mostly, Gardner said she bought the land so Stampin' Up! would finally have a home.

"I think this says we're here to stay," Gardner said. "We've always felt that, but when you're leasing property, sometimes people aren't sure if you're going to stay in Utah. This says we're here to stay, and we want to promote Utah. And 55 acres gives us a lot of room to grow."

Construction likely will take place in stages beginning in the spring, Gardner said. Hopefully, workers will be able to move to the new campus in mid-2004. Stampin' Up! employs about 400 people statewide.

Though the plans are still in the draft stage, Stampin' Up! marketing director Lori Berntsen said the new facilities may offer workers such amenities as an exercise facility, upscale cafeteria and on-site day-care.

The company chose Riverton because of its central location between workers who commute from Utah and Weber counties, Berntsen said. Riverton also offered the space to build multiple buildings without cutting out green space, she said.

"We're in kind of a quiet neighborhood there," Berntsen said. "Shelli wanted something where she could create a really nice ambiance and atmosphere, where she could have grass and trees and walkways."

If the company continues to grow as it has in the past — at an average of 30 percent year over year — Gardner said she hopes to open up more job opportunities for Riverton residents.

"We're right in Riverton's back yard," she said. "Hopefully, as we expand, people in Riverton will want to work with us. We don't have specific numbers or projections, but we're growing at a fairly fast pace. We hope to bring on more people to do more good things."
