Life Flight airlifts the body of a rock climber who fell approximately 150 feet to his death early Wednesday morning. Daniel Rector, 46, was climbing about 5:30 a.m. with a friend on the west slope of Monte Cristo just above Snowbird. The two men were free climbing, meaning they did not use ropes. Rector apparently lost his footing and fell, said Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy Peggy Faulkner. He suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Faulkner said Rector was a very experienced climber and was known locally among people in the climbing community. Rector is the son of Elder Hartman Rector Jr., emeritus member of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
