Kent Black, age 68, passed away January 8, 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born July 23, 1934 in Blanding, UT to Glen Black and Donna Nielson Black. He married Virginia Nielson Black, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a graduate of the University of Utah.
He was a man of few words, but those words spoke volumes. He demonstrated generosity in all aspects of his life and was loved by all those who knew him. With his storytelling and humor, others gravitated to him. If you needed advice or reassurance, he had it. This made him the supreme patriarch to his children, grandchildren, as well as all the many extended family members. He was willing to fulfill any church calling and held many in his lifetime. His love of service led him to complete three missions with his beloved wife, Virginia. They served two in Frankfurt, Germany, and one in Salt Lake.
Whether in Salt Lake or in his beloved Redrocks of Blanding, even the most casual passer-by called him friend. Kent found solace knee deep in his garden with the roses, daisies, raspberries and of course the elusive apricot tree. He has left subtle beauties that remind us of his eternal presence.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Nielson Black; children, Julie (Neil) Monson, Jane (Terence) Gill, Andrew N. Black; grandchildren, Tiffany, Lance (Brooke), Brandie Black, Cassidy Hollingworth, Danielle, Cheyenne, Jake Gill, Joshua, Caleb Monson; great-grandchild, Madison Hollingworth; father, Glen Black; and siblings, Hal Black, Calvin Black, Colleen Gatton. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Glen Black, brother, Bruce N. Black, and mother, Donna Nielson Black.
