ZION NATIONAL PARK — A 66-year-old California woman is dead after apparently falling nearly 900 feet to her death while hiking alone in Zion National Park, said Ron Terry, park information officer.
Dorothy Kaiser, Joshua Tree, Calif., was last seen Sunday by staff at Zion Lodge, who also reported her missing.
Rangers found her vehicle at the Grotto parking area, and a search team found Kaiser's body at the base of Scouts Lookout on Tuesday afternoon, Terry said. Kaiser's body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy. An investigation into the fall is being conducted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the National Park Service.
Scouts Lookout, a popular viewpoint along the West Rim Trail, rises about 900 feet above the floor of Zion Canyon.
