EL PASO, Texas — UTEP basketball coach Billy Gillispie was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Gillispie was stopped Sunday for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, detective Darrel Petry said.

He was released from jail on $750 bond. The misdemeanor charge carries a possible penalty of six months in jail and up to $2,000 in fines for a first offense.

UTEP withheld comment because the school is still gathering information on what happened, assistant athletic director Jeff Darby said.

Gillispie coached UTEP (4-12, 2-5 Western Athletic) to a 85-78 overtime win over Boise State on Saturday.
