JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A former air traffic controller was convicted Friday of killing his ex-wife with a bomb wrapped as a Christmas gift.

William Jarvis was convicted of first-degree murder in the Jan. 6, 2001, death of his ex-wife, Lillian. He has maintained his innocence and has said he did not make or deliver the bomb.

The jury will return later this month to consider whether Jarvis will receive life in prison or the death penalty.

The bomb was in a tackle box wrapped as a Christmas gift that appeared on the doorstep of the home Lillian Jarvis shared with her mother, stepfather, boyfriend and daughter.

She took the package to the bathroom, where it exploded as she opened it, killing her and injuring her mother and boyfriend.
