Many have suggested that the attacks of Sept. 11 could have been averted had we been more vigilant in enforcing immigration laws. But will we ever remove all the illegal immigrants or keep all those who want to emigrate from crossing our border? Of course not! Not only would it be next to impossible to find them all, the cost would be astronomical.
Wouldn't it be better, then, for us to focus our law enforcement and immigration control resources on tracking down and deporting known terrorists and other immigrants engaged in criminal behavior? It's a mistake for our government to waste its time removing working people with families who contribute to our society in the name of immigration control and national security. Let's concentrate on apprehending those within our borders who truly threaten our security.
