Salt Lake Valley residents who display Christmas lights on and around their homes this year can get something more than seasonal warm fuzzies, oohs and aahs from passers-by and a big electricity bill.

Awards are up for grabs this yuletide.

Former Sen. Jake Garn heads a team of Christmas enthusiasts in bringing back an old tradition — the Christmas Lighting/Display Contest. Every home in the Salt Lake Valley is eligible to enter.

Send your name, address (with coordinates) telephone number, e-mail address, along with a $25 entry fee to: Christmas Lighting & Display Contest, P.O. Box 71415, Salt Lake City, UT 84171-0415. The contest is limited to the first 500 entries. Deadline is Nov. 28. All proceeds go to "Quarters for Christmas." For more information call 486-3411 or 641-5400.

Awards will be given to each "Best of Lights/Display" winner. Judging starts Dec. 8, and winners of this event will be showcased in the Deseret Morning News.
